Connecting & typing
How does the connection between phone/web and TV work?
Open Typeping on your TV – the TV app shows you a one-time six-digit code. Enter that code in the Typeping app on your phone, or at typeping.tv in your browser. Your TV then stays connected to your account for good, so you won't need to enter the code again.
Your phone/browser and TV don't need to be on the same Wi-Fi network – the connection runs through your Typeping account, not a local network link.
I open a text field on the TV, but no keyboard appears on my phone
This usually has one of two causes:
• The TV isn't connected. Check under "Devices" in the app whether your TV shows as connected. If not, reconnect it using the six-digit code.
• The app on the TV doesn't expose a recognizable text field. Some apps (e.g. YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video) don't technically expose a text field Typeping can detect, even though one is visible on screen. For these cases there's the Wi-Fi remote: as soon as you open a search field in such an app, you'll get a prompt on your phone and can type using the remote-control feature instead. You can manage which apps trigger this prompt under Account → "Apps without detection".
How many TVs can I connect at the same time?
The free plan includes one TV per account. Typeping Premium with multiple simultaneously connected TVs is in the works.
Which TVs are supported?
Typeping works on Android TV and Amazon Fire TV. Typing from your phone or browser works on any device with an up-to-date browser.
I have a Fire TV – why do I need to turn on developer mode first?
Fire TV doesn't offer an official interface that lets apps like Typeping detect which text field is currently active. So on Fire TV, Typeping types into every app – including Prime Video and Netflix – via ADB debugging instead. That needs to be turned on once:
1. Turn on Developer options: On the Fire TV, go to Settings → My Fire TV → About, select the device name at the top, then press the remote's select button 7 times until it says you're a developer.
2. Turn on ADB debugging: Settings → My Fire TV → Developer options → ADB debugging → On.
3. Confirm the first connection: The Fire TV shows an "Allow debugging?" prompt – confirm it with the remote. That's a one-time, on-device security check Amazon requires and can't be skipped from the phone. Choosing "Always allow from this computer" avoids the prompt afterwards.
Do I need to pair again for every app on the TV?
No. Pairing applies to your whole TV as a device, not per app. Once connected, Typeping automatically detects whenever a text field becomes active anywhere on the TV.
I get "Code invalid or expired" when pairing
The six-digit code is only valid for a few minutes. Reopen the Typeping app on your TV to get a fresh code, and enter it promptly.
Privacy & security
Is what I type saved or read by anyone?
No. Your text is only transmitted live to the currently active TV to fill in the text field there – it isn't stored permanently or analyzed. See our Privacy Policy at https://typeping.tv/en/data-privacy for details.
Account
How do I delete my account or my data?
Under Account → "Delete account permanently" you can irreversibly delete your account along with all stored data. More details in the Privacy Policy at https://typeping.tv/en/data-privacy.
